Since its start in July 2003, Porn Star Karaoke has become the longest-running ongoing weekly event in the history of the adult business.
Admission (21 and older, with photo ID) and parking are free.

The best magic show, ever
I'm a member of the Magic Castle, the private club for magicians that has been a landmark in the Hollywood Hills for almost 50 years. I go there pretty much every week and have for the last five years.
Every night at the Castle there are five different scheduled magic shows, ranging from intimate close-up shows in a tiny room that seats 30 to large effects on an elevated proscenium stage in a room that seats more than 100. On any given night, there are also a dozen members carrying a deck of cards or other magic paraphernalia, ready to use them to dazzle passers-by.
Six months ago, Helder Guimaraes and Derek DelGaudio put together a show for a weekend, playing in a room in the Castle that is only open on Friday and Saturday nights. Word spread like wildfire, and both nights they had to perform an extra show, and they held the show over and did four more shows on Sunday.
I saw one of those first shows. I was lucky to be in standing room when Derek's fiancee waved me over to join her and use a seat she had reserved but couldn't use. I brought Kim Airs, Bob Christian, Luc Wylder and Alexandra Silk to see the show, making them sit and wait for an hour so we could get front row seats.
At the Magic Castle's awards in April, Helder won Parlour Magician of the Year, and Derek won Close-Up Magician of the Year. Their show may have had something to do with this.
Two months ago, they brought the show back to the weekend-only venue. They ran Wednesday through Sunday, four shows a night, for two weeks. People were waiting three hours to get in. Magic Castle members like myself -- who have seen hundreds of magic performances and pretty much know how to do every trick we see -- were overwhelmed. Professional magicians were coming in from other states to see the show. When the show concluded, people would get right back in line to see it again.
This show is what legends are made of. The opening piece, which involves a deck of cards and a chess clock and is performed in total silence, defies description. The tricks that follow -- and there are only four or five effects in the whole show, it runs half-an-hour, tops -- are amazing and masterfully presented. The show rekindles the sense of wonder that brought the magicians to magic in the first place. And civilians are stunned. Ask Kim. Or Bob, or Luc, or Alexandra.
If you have a Castle guest card, the next four Tuesdays would be a good time to use it.
Deja vu
A couple of weeks ago I won a contest and the prize was an iPad. I really like it, and it has become for me a supplement to the red notebook I usually carry. Kind of like a clipboard with Internet access and the ability to take pictures and record digital sound. Like our friend the Post-it Note, it was something I never knew I needed until I had it.
One of the first things I did was download Nathaniel Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter," which I have never read. Take THAT, 21st century!
There is no instruction manual. The iPad comes with instructions how to turn it on, and the iPad itself guides you through setup.
Anyway, I was thinking of going to see Stanley Kubrick's "2001" at the Academy last week so I was thinking about the movie and I flashed back to the scene where the two Discovery astronauts are watching a BBC TV program where they are interviewed. (Classic exposition, but so well integrated into the film you don't notice.) I thought the little TV gizmos looked familiar, so I popped the "2001" DVD into the computer and vidcapped the image below.

I've been reporting what's going on with the nudists because I believe that when the enemies of free expression want to go after people's rights, they don't do a full-frontal attack, they nibble at the edges; and nudists, who practice their recreation in isolated places, are particularly vulnerable to innuendo.
I recently found a gratifying story about Laura, a young woman who is in an advanced stage of cancer therapy and refuses to let it get her down, even attending a body-painting event at a nude B-and-B in Palm Springs and volunteering to go on camera when TV newspeople showed up to record it:

I looked him up: he's 94 and living in New York. He was married to photographer Diane Arbus, something I never knew although the same surname has been staring me in the face for decades.

The ambitious Ryder has set his hand to John Landis' seminal comedy -- which, surprisingly, I still haven't seen -- and sends out a press release about it, avoiding the dreaded (by me) "former Playmate" trap and whetting the public's appetite for the fall release.

"We've been planning it for the past few years but were too busy to put together a production of this insane scope."
The cast of thirty one actors will help make this movie go down as one of the biggest adult movie productions of all-time but what really makes this story special is that it's funny as hell and the spirit of Animal House was captured beautifully right down to Blutarsky.

After all this time we were fighting the dot-xxx domain, here comes a mainstream company that is using a dot-xxx domain for satiric purposes.
The people at Team Coco have bought Conan.xxx and are putting up fake-porn videos like Andy Richter going through an amateur-porn type interview and then eating soup from two bowls at the same time. They know their porn conventions over there, and they didn't even consult with me even though I have worked in porn for damn near 15 years and live a couple blocks from their studio.
I still think the "mainstreaming of porn" is a crock, but if it's going to happen it will be because of mainstream coming to us, not the other way around. Good for them for finding a new way to make and distribute more humorous content -- but too bad they're using a dot-xxx site to do it.

The celebrity rumor mills are abuzz with the fact that James Deen and Lindsay Lohan are going to star in a new movie written by Bret Easton Ellis and directed by Paul Schrader. See below.
I have met James Deen on several occasions and had a good conversation with him once, during the shooting of -- I think -- the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" parody. It could have been something else, I honestly don't remember now.
I have one suggestion for James Deen regarding this project: Walk away. Don't do it. Don't work with these guys, nothing good will come of it.
If you want to know what Schrader thinks of sex and sexuality, watch "Hardcore," a 1976 film starring George C. Scott as a father whose teenage daughter is waylaid from a school trip and winds up a porn star. He also wrote "Taxi Driver," which is a great movie but it makes you want to take a shower afterwards.
Bret Easton Ellis wrote the books "American Psycho" and "Less Than Zero." 'nuff said?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those Pollyannas who believe that all movies should be happy sunshine and flowers: My favorite film of all time is Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" and I'm perfectly OK with challenging, gritty, downbeat content. But these guys just make depressing crap. My guess is it'll wind up like "Showgirls" -- but without the camp value, or Elizabeth Berkley's tits, or the discovery of Gina Gershon.

Lindsay Lohan met up with porn star James Deen Sunday night -- he'll share the screen with Linds in the upcoming sex thriller The Canyons, as X17online reported two weeks ago.
Also at the dinner were writer Bret Easton Ellis -- the same guy who brought us American Psycho and Less Than Zero -- so you know this new script won't be for the faint of heart...
The group dined at new LA restaurant The Churchill and Lilo, James and her pal Gavin took smoke breaks outside during the meal.
Filming is set to begin next month on July 9th, according to Ellis' recent Tweet. The film will be directed by Paul Schrader (who wrote Raging Bull and Taxi Driver).
We can't wait to see Lindsay in this gritty role! The film's described as documenting "five twenty-somethings' quest for power, love, sex and success in 2012 Hollywood." Hey, Lindsay wrote the book on that! Talk about method acting!

Universal Studios is celebrating its 100th aniversary by releasing a number of its movies in graphically standardized packages. I have been critical of some of the decisions of Universal Studios Home Entertainment over the years, including the screwed-up "restoration" of Alfred Hitchcock's 1955 "The Man Who Knew Too Much" and their cavalier treatment of the pre-1948 Paramount Pictures library with gems like "Midnight" and "International House" that have never gotten the attention they deserve.
This threefer, however, makes No Sense What-So-Ever, If you can figure it out, let me know.

Alex Chance proves the 13th Earl of Gurney was right
If you saw the movie "The Ruling Class," and you didn't miss the first three minutes, you remember Ralph Douglas Christopher Alexander Gurney, the 13th Earl of Gurney, telling his manservant of his intention to marry a young woman and observing:

Presented for your consideration at your right is Alex Chance, on her first DVD cover. You can't tell that she has brains from the picture, but she does, and she certainly has a good pair of titties, as you can see. She was very excited when she got the cover and rightly so, it is a good exposure for her.
I have been following Alex Chance's nascent career since the January show, and I think that she is a prime contender for Best New Starlet and will probably receive a few scene nominations as well. And she is using somebody else for her publicity, so I have no conflict saying these things.

The first LA Porn Tour, hosted by Charity Bangs and Brandi Belle, was a smashing success! The giant party bus was filled to capacity with eager men and women looking to see some of the sexy sights of the adult entertainment industry. The tour started from The Rainbow Bar & Grill, and stops included Sexx University Apparel, Bizzy B Boutique, Spearmint Rhino Gentlemen's Club in Van Nuys, and a private porn studio in the San Fernando Valley, before ending up back at the Rainbow.
It was the ride of their lives for 35 passengers who shared an intimate evening touring some of the city's adult hot spots with Charity Bangs and Brandi Belle. Drinks were served and the bus provided an awesome party atmosphere.
Starting at the Rainbow Bar and Grill in Hollywood, the tour got under way with gift bags and drink specials. Then the passengers boarded the party bus and went to Sexx University, a store selling quality clothing for men and women, where the theme is school spirit and a healthy sexual education.
After each person received their own printed diploma from Sexx University, and had a photo op with Charity and Brandi, we boarded the bus and partied off to Bizzy B Boutique. At Bizzy B, Charity did a quick signing of her pictures and DVDs for the store customers and those on the tour. Bizzy B has a large selection of leather and toys as well as clothing and lingerie.
Next we were off to the Spearmint Rhino. This totally nude gentlemen's club gave VIP treatment to the entire tour. It was a real treat to watch Charity Bangs strip for an erotic set on their stage. An added bonus was when legendary porn star Rebecca Bardot walked into the Spearmint Rhino to see Charity perform. Rebecca said, "Charity has a good vibe, I love her! She promised me an anal hook up the butt, so I had to come by!"
The high points of the tour were the feature dance set performed by Charity at the Spearmint Rhino, and the sex scene everyone watched our tour guides perform with the lucky guy performer Logan Exx. The bus returned a group of very happy people to the Rainbow at the conclusion of the tour. Here is what some of the people on the tour had to say:
She: "I think [LA Porn Tours] is a fantastic idea. I think it's novel and highly called for. Meeting expectations? Yeah, actually beyond [my expectations] and the people on [the bus] are really cool! She: "If we came back [for another tour] we would bring more friends. It's definitely a group interactive thing… the more the merrier."
Another couple said, Him: "We liked it. It's exciting. We're having a great time! We met new people, seeing people you didn't think you would meet, it's cool!" Her: "Something different." Him: "I enjoyed it! Absolutely! Quite possibly do it again."

The gift that keeps on writing
Years ago, when I was working on a game show, right around Christmas, the producer summoned me into his office, reached over to a big stack of robin's-egg blue boxes, and handed me one, with a perfunctory holiday greeting.
Inside was a sterling silver pen, with a clip that was a big "T." I still have it. I hardly ever use it, just trot it out every few years and take it to Tiffany's to get it polished up and get a new $7 refill because the old one has dried up. At least I don't have to go to Beverly Hills any more, there are Tiffany stores all over town nowadays. A few years ago, my dad gave me a Montblanc ballpoint pen. He got it as a gift, but he said he never kept track of his pens and he would lose it -- but he knew I wouldn't, so he gave it to me. I resisted using it for a long time, but it felt so good in my hand I figured I didn't care how pretentious it looked, I was going to use it.
Last week, I went over to the Montblanc website to see what the model was, and I saw to my surprise that the replacement value of the pen wasn't the $125 I had thought, but $385!
Intrigued, I went to Tiffany.com to check out my silver pen. I found it, and the pen is still available. If you want one, it'll set you back a big fat $175.
I am amazed that my sterling silver Tiffany pen is now the cheap one.
Cinematographic lexicon: 'rack focus'
The good people at abbywinters.com have given me leave to run barefoot through their collection of more than half-a-million still photographs and more than 1,000 hours of videos for a review I will be writing soon.

Clothed nude convention in Las Vegas a hit
The good people at the Terra Cotta Inn, a clothing-optional couples getaway in Palm Springs, are reporting on their Tumblr that the nudist convention held in Las Vegas earlier this month was a hit. Good. I have been saying for a while that the nudists are the first line of defense of free expression and the less they are interfered with, the better for everybody.
The high irony level of a nudist convention being held in a venue that requires everybody to be clothed is noted.
